Presentation Approach
During my Honors Portfolio Presentation I try to give the audience a brief overview of my UW story, as well as highlight my favorite aspects of the journey so far. I begin my presentation by sharing my intended audience for my portfolio, which since I am not graduating this spring is mainly myself. I talk about how I hope to use my portfolio as a time capsule of sorts, as a means to reflect upon and remember my time as an undergraduate at UW.
I spend the majority of the first half of my presentation telling a very condensed version of my UW story. I center this part of my presentation around my Honors 100 Portfolio Statement and my Honors 496 Learning Statement. I choose to structure it this way because I think the two statements, when juxtaposed, show a clear delineation of how I got from where I started to where I am now. I focus a lot on my naïve mindset when I first entered UW, and ultimately how that evolved. I make it a point to explain that even though nothing went as I had planned during my time at UW, looking back I am so grateful how it has all turned out.
I spend the rest of my presentation going through each of my three main sections (Nursing, Public Health, and Honors) of my portfolio. I highlight my favorite classes and assignments. My main narrative theme is the idea that being pushed outside my comfort zone has shaped many of the positive experiences I have had to far at UW. I then conclude my presentation by reflecting on how proud I am to be a double major in Nursing and Public Health, and how even through the journey has been tougher than I anticipated, if I had the option to do it again, I wouldn’t want it to have gone any other way.
